Family members

mother, father, brother, sister, grandmother, grandfather, aunt, uncle, cousin.

Possessive pronouns

We use my, his and her to show who something belongs to.

• my = belongs to me: My bag is heavy.
• his = belongs to a boy or man: His brother is a student.
• her = belongs to a girl or woman: Her cat is friendly.

Examples:

• Amira has a kite. Her kite is flying high.
• I have a balloon. My balloon is yellow.
• Nader has a book. His book is new.
• This is Laila. Her dress is pink.

Families help us grow

Nour says: "I love my family. My father and mother take me to school. They also cook me lunch. My brother plays with me. They help me grow."

• My father takes me to school.
• My mother cooks us food every day.
• My brother helps me do my homework.
• My grandmother reads me a story.

Celebrations and traditions

• Mother's Day, Eid Al-Fitr, Sham El-Nessim, and the 6th of October are celebrations.
• The 6th of October reminds us how brave the Egyptian soldiers are.
• On Sham El-Nessim we go to the garden all day, play, and eat salted fish.
• You can say: "My favorite celebration is ..." and tell why you love it.

Sound practice: the letter "x" = /gz/

Words: exam, exit, example, examine, exist. Example: "I have an exam today." "She ran to the exit."

Sound practice: "ph" = /f/

Words: phone, photo, elephant, graph, alphabet. In these words the letters p and h together make the sound of f.

Jobs

doctor, teacher, baker, farmer, pilot.

• My aunt works as a doctor. She helps patients.
• My uncle bakes delicious bread. He is a baker.
• My father is a teacher. He works at a school.
• My mother is a pilot. She travels around the world. You can say: "He wants to be a doctor."

Remember

• Use my for me, his for a boy, and her for a girl.
• Say "My uncle is a baker."
• Use a capital letter at the beginning of a sentence and an end mark at the end.
