What we learn

Greetings

Say these words when you meet someone:

• Hello! / Good morning!
• How are you? Answer: I am fine, thank you.
• Nice to meet you!
• See you later! / Goodbye!

Introducing yourself

• My name is Lina.
• I am 8 years old.
• I am from Egypt.
• I am in Primary 3.

Practice with a friend. Student A asks, "What is your name?" Student B answers, "My name is ... Nice to meet you!"

Classroom rules

Good classroom phrases:

• Raise your hand.
• Listen carefully.
• Sit down.
• Be kind.
• Keep your classroom clean.
• Don't shout.
• May I go to the bathroom?

When the teacher talks, listen carefully. If you want to answer, raise your hand.

Sound practice: the letters "wh"

The letters wh make the sound /w/. Words: what, when, where, why, whale, wheel, white. Example: "What is your name?" "I saw a big whale in the ocean." "My shirt is white."

Describing people

• Looks: tall, short, curly hair, straight hair, long hair, short hair, brown eyes.
• Personality: funny, shy, friendly, helpful, polite, kind.

Examples:

• I am funny. I make my friends laugh.
• He is friendly. He says hello to everyone.
• She is helpful when someone needs help.
• My teacher is tall. She has long hair.
• A shy person does not talk a lot. A polite person says "please" and "thank you".

The verb "to be" (am, is, are)

• I am happy.
• You are my friend.
• He is a student. She is kind. It is a cat.
• We are ready. They are in class.

Daily routines

Words: wake up, brush my teeth, get dressed, make my bed, brush my hair, have breakfast, go to school, do my homework.

• I wake up at 7 a.m.
• He goes to school at 8 a.m.
• She does her homework every day.

Amir's day: he wakes up at 6 a.m., brushes his teeth, gets dressed, has breakfast, goes to school, plays with friends, goes home and does his homework.

Present simple rules

• With he, she or it, add -s: He plays football.
• If the verb ends in ch, sh, x, ss or o, add -es: She brushes her teeth.
• If the verb ends in a consonant + y, change y to i and add -es: study becomes studies.
• If the verb ends in a vowel + y, just add -s: play becomes plays.
