What we learn

We learn the names of the rooms in a house and what we do in each room. This chapter also reviews Units 4, 5 and 6. (Parents: walk around your home and name each room together.)

Rooms

kitchen, living room, bedroom, bathroom, dining room, garden, hall, balcony.

What do we do in each room?

• I sleep in my bedroom at night.
• We cook dinner in the kitchen.
• I brush my teeth in the bathroom.
• We watch TV in the living room.
• We eat in the dining room. Questions: Where do you eat? I eat in the dining room. Where do you watch TV? I watch TV in the living room. Where is the table? It is in the dining room. Where is the bed? It is next to the window.

There is / There are

• Use There is for one thing: There is a kitchen in my house. There is a bed in my room.
• Use There are for more than one thing: There are three bedrooms. There are four chairs at the table. There are flowers in the garden.

Guessing game

One child gives a clue. The other child says the room. Example: "There is a bed. We sleep there." The answer is the bedroom. "There is a fridge. We cook food there." The answer is the kitchen. "There are flowers and trees." The answer is the garden.

Phonics: ch

The letters ch make one sound: chair, chin, cheese, chicken, lunch, beach.

Review of Units 4, 5 and 6

• Family members: mother, father, sister, brother, grandmother, grandfather.
• Daily routines: "I wake up at 7 o'clock." "My father cooks in the kitchen."
• Questions: "Where do you eat?" "Who washes the dishes?" "What do you do after school?"
• Home words with sentences: "There is a lamp on the table."
• Spell the words: bathroom, kitchen, bedroom, shop, ship, fish, cheese, beach, lunch, teeth, thumb, math, rose, nose, cube, glue.

Let's write

Write a sentence about a room in your house: "The kitchen is big." "The living room has a TV." Draw your home and label the rooms.
