What we learn

We learn action words we use in class and how to say what we do every day. This chapter also reviews Units 1, 2 and 3. (Parents: ask your child to act out each word.)

Action words

read, write, draw, color, clean, play, sit, stand, raise, open, close, sing.

What do you do in the classroom?

We ask: What do you do in the classroom? We answer with I + action word:

• I read.
• I write.
• I play.
• I draw. Longer sentences: "In class, I sit on my chair. I read my book. I write in my notebook. I draw a picture. I play with my friends. I clean my desk."

Classroom instructions

The teacher gives instructions. We listen and do them:

• Stand up, please.
• Sit down.
• Raise your hand.
• Open your book.
• Close your book after reading.
• Draw a circle.
• Write your name on the board.
• Clean your desk.

Initial sounds

The first sound of a word is the initial sound. Listen to the first sound of each word. Example: sit and sun start with the same sound. Say the word out loud and feel how your mouth moves. Action words for the sound game: sit, clap, draw, read, clean.

Making sentences

Put words in order: "I sit on the chair." "Stand up, please!" "I read my book." "I clean my desk." Fill the blank: "I ___ my desk." (clean). "I ___ with my friends." (play).

Review of Units 1, 2 and 3

• Greetings: Hello, Goodbye, What's your name?
• Classroom objects: chair, desk, book, eraser, bag, ruler, door, window, board.
• Shapes: circle, square, triangle. Colors: red, blue, green, yellow.
• Numbers from one to ten.
• Full sentences: "This is a red book." "I have three pencils." "How many chairs are there?"
• Activities: "I see four red books." "The chair is blue." "This is a big triangle."
