What we learn

In this unit we say hello, ask and say names, shake hands, name things in our classroom, and learn the letters Tt and Ii. (Parents: read each part aloud and let your child repeat after you.)

Greetings

Maya and Hana meet at school.

• Maya: Hello!
• Hana: Hello! What's your name?
• Maya: My name is Maya.
• Hana: I'm Hana! Nice to meet you, Maya!
• Maya: Nice to meet you, too, Hana! Do you want to shake hands?
• Hana: Yes! (They shake hands.)
• Maya: Goodbye, Hana!

Useful words and sentences: Hello! Goodbye! shake hands, friends.

• What's your name?
• My name is Hana.
• We are friends now!

Around my classroom

Classroom words: teacher, book, bag, pencil, chair, desk. Classroom actions: stand up, sit down. We listen, point, and repeat. We also circle the pictures we can find in our classroom, and put a tick (v) if the picture and the word match, or a cross (X) if they do not.

Letter Tt

• The letter Tt has an uppercase form (T) and a lowercase form (t).
• Words that begin with Tt: teacher, tree, tomato, table.
• We trace the letter, match the objects that start with Tt, and circle the beginning letter of a picture.

Letter Ii

• The letter Ii has an uppercase form (I) and a lowercase form (i).
• Words that begin with Ii: insect, ink.
• We trace the letter and circle all the pictures that start with Ii.

Activity

Draw or glue a picture of yourself on your first day of school.

• We greet people politely: Hello! Goodbye!
• We tell our name: My name is ...
• We can shake hands with new friends.
