Grammar Rules
Present simple: we use it for facts, habits and routines. Example: He runs. She usually cycles to school. I don't ride bikes. Does Noha speak English? Adverbs of frequency: always (100%), usually (90%), often (70%), sometimes (50%), rarely (10%), never (0%). They tell us how often something happens. Place them before the main verb but after the verb to be. Examples: He often uses his tablet for homework. I always check my emails in the morning. I am never late for school. Parts of speech: a noun names a person, thing, animal or place (screen, website); a verb shows an action (search, remind); an adjective describes a noun (digital, amazing). Word families: words that come from the same root, for example board: keyboard, smartboard, noticeboard, board game; work: worker, homework, workbook, schoolwork. Capital letters: at the beginning of a sentence; for proper nouns (Cairo, Egypt, Aswan); days, months and holidays (Monday, January) but not seasons (spring, fall); languages and nationalities (Arabic, Egyptian); and the pronoun I.
Reading and Listening
A Day in My Digital Life (blog by Tarek): Tarek checks messages on his phone every morning, searches for news on his tablet at breakfast, uses the smartboard and computers at school, does his homework first and searches for information on his laptop, sometimes plays online games with friends for one hour, and reads ebooks before bed. He uses the night mode so the screen does not hurt his eyes. The main idea: technology is amazing but we must use it wisely and take breaks from screens. Digital Devices (email from Joury to Talia): Joury uses the computer and keyboard for homework, the mouse to click, headphones or speakers for videos and music, the webcam for video calls, the microphone to record presentations for class, and the printer to print her homework. Her teacher uses a smartboard. Listening: Ayman talks about screen time and social media; a post about Egypt's Hybrid Bus presents a clean-energy technology that helps the environment. Story Time, Chapter One: The Magic Classroom: Mr. Adam tells the children that to succeed in the Magic Classroom they must show responsibility and work together. Sara is eager to learn, Omar is shy and nervous, and Zain is calm and kind and encourages him. They solve the locked box by sharing ideas and working as a team.
Language Skills and Functions
Writing an email: begin with "Hi [name]," use short simple sentences, include at least six target words (tablet, ebooks, digital, online, smartboard, search...), and end with a closing such as "Write back soon!" or "Talk to you later!" Include a question for your friend. Speaking (Think-Pair-Share): think about your daily routine, ask your partner questions, then share with the class.
Solved Exercises
