The characters

Noor, Ahmed and Farida (three friends at a school), their teacher, the school cleaner Mr. Youssef, a classmate who speaks unkindly, and the head teacher.

Key vocabulary

• tap, pipe, drop, hallway, leak, overflow: parts of the problem. A leak lets water escape through a hole or crack, and water overflows when a sink or pipe is too full.
• precious: very valuable, something we must protect. resources: natural things we use, like water, air or energy.
• curious: wanting to learn more. cheerful: happy and bright. spread: move to more people or places. mini-challenges: small competitions. puddles: small pools of water on the ground.

The story

1. One sunny morning the three friends see a tap in the school bathroom dripping even when no one is using it, and water overflowing from a broken pipe in the garden.
2. Noor says, "We waste too much water." Ahmed says, "We need to take better care of our resources." Farida snaps her fingers and says, "Let's do something about it! We can be Water Savers!"
3. They tell their teacher, who smiles and says, "That's a wonderful idea. Go for it and let me know how I can help."
4. The next day Noor writes down the problems in a notebook, Ahmed takes photos with his tablet, and Farida makes bright posters with colored markers: "Turn off the tap while brushing!" and "Every drop counts. Fix leaks fast!"
5. They talk to the school cleaner, Mr. Youssef, who fixes a leaking sink and explains that a small drip can waste liters of water each day.
6. A classmate says unkindly, "Why do you care about water so much? It's just a few drops." Noor answers firmly, "Because water is life. We all need it, and we all need to protect it." Her friends stand beside her and keep going.
7. The message spreads. Posters hang in bathrooms, classrooms and near garden taps, teachers talk about saving water, and some classes have mini-challenges. The head teacher gives the three friends certificates of achievement, and everyone becomes a Water Saver.

Moral and theme

Small actions matter when people work together. "Every drop counts" means even small amounts of water matter. One person, or a few friends, can make a big difference.

Activities

• Put the events in order, say who said each sentence, and match words with meanings (dripping = flowing in small drops, leaky = having holes or cracks).
• Discuss: Why is saving water important? What three things can you do at home to save water?
• Write 3-4 sentences about what you would do to save water at your school, and design a "Save Water" poster with a slogan and a picture.
